Alex, Academic Tutor

With a Masters degree in Primary Education, Alex has a wealth of experience when it comes to learning both in the education and commercial sectors. A passion for learning has shaped her career with over eight years’ experience in different teaching capacities, including class teacher, PPA cover teacher and a learning and development consultant in HR. Although Alex taught primarily in Year 5 and therefore specialises in Key Stage 2, she was also a PPA teacher across all primary years. As a result, she readily understands the differing needs and expectations for each year group across the curriculum.

A passionate advocate for continuing learning beyond classroom doors, Alex believes in nurturing children’s curiosity for the world around them through fun and meaningful activities. She loves witnessing the pride children feel when their confidence and resilience grow and she strives to encourage every child to aim for their full potential. Alex values the need to build strong, trusting relationships and how this leads to more holistic, personalised learning experiences that are relevant and as engaging as possible to the individual child. She also has experience working with pupils with a wide range of needs, including autism.

Being a bookworm herself, Alex thoroughly enjoys teaching reading, supporting language acquisition and helping children grow their comprehension skills. She believes in the importance of getting lost in a really good book and all that can offer to children’s development. Geography has always been a favourite subject, having studied it as her primary setting specialism at university and also being subject lead within school, inspiring her to help students explore their connections with the world around them.

As a recently qualified Mental Health First Aider, Alex is committed to fostering a safe, learning space that supports student’s emotional wellbeing, as well as learning outcomes. In her free time, Alex enjoys walking with her dog, Oak, participating in a book club, tending to her many house plants and spending time with family or friends.
